Colours of the Earth: Pigment, Paint and Pastel making workshop (HUGO BURGE FOUNDATION) 16th April
In this workshop you will explore the empowering crafts of making pigment, paint and pastels. You will experience the magical transformation of turning foraged stones, earth and clay, into beautifully rich pigments. You will then turn those foraged pigments into your own high quality handmade paints and pastels.
Making your own pigments is an act of rebellion and remembering. It reclaims the artist as colour maker, and reminds us of the long arc of history that came before pre-made paints became so dominant. These age-old crafts open up immense possibilities in art making, they have the potential to reweave us back into landscape and back into cultures of connection.
You will go home from this workshop with a selection of your own handmade paints and pastels to further experiment with, as well as in-depth notes which will guide you through making pigments, paints and pastels at home/in the studio.
Suitable for complete beginners and/or experienced art makers who would like to develop their skills in making art materials.
