The Story of RED: Timelines in Colour, OMA STUDIO, 13th June
Timelines in Colour are a unique series of workshops that give you the chance to delve, in considerable detail, into one particular colour.
Rose Madder, Vermillion, Cadmium, Alizarin, Carmine…we read these names on tubes of paint, but what do they mean? What are the stories of these names, when and how did these colours become available to artists?
During this workshop you will explore the story of the colour red, one of the colours with the longest historical use by humans in the world. Appearing naturally in the earth as ochres and from certain plants and mineral form, this powerful colour gives artists and creators the possibility to create drama and depth alike.
Throughout the day, there shall be ample opportunity for you to see examples of these reds, to feel the raw materials that begin the journey of the pigment, and to paint your own timeline colour chart to take home.
This workshop is a mixture of historical and colour theory as well as practical demonstrations and opportunities to make paint, ink. You will go home with your own hand made paint, ink, colour chart.
