HALF DAY Journey's into Ancient Pigments: The Vitality of Red at OMA STUDIO 29th October
Timelines of Colour workshops are a chance to delve, in considerable detail, into one particular colour.
Rose Madder, Vermillion, Cadmium, Alizarin, Carmine…we read these names on tubes of paint, but what do they mean? What are the stories of these names, when and how did these colours become available to artists?
During this workshop we will be exploring the story of the colour red, one of the colours with the longest historical use by humans in the world. Appearing naturally in the earth as ochres and from certain plants and mineral form, these powerful colours are a joy to use in creative work.
There shall be ample opportunity throughout the workshop to see examples of these reds, to feel the raw materials that begin the journey of the pigment, and to paint your own timeline colour chart.
This workshop will be a mixture of historical and colour theory as well as practical application.
Every workshop at Old Mill Arts begins with a hot drink and home baked biscuits. We hope that our workshops are a real treat for yourself or a loved one, as well as a rich learning experience.
